i have same problem vith 30GB classic
cant detect itunes.
pc detects when it is in disk mode but can't open disk
it seems hard disk is damaged.
is it any way to put ipod classic in recovery or DFU mode?

i also got for same problem but in end i came to know that it was due to hardware

Hi First Of All Connect The USB to The iPod & Then Follow These Steps

1. PRESS THE MENU AND MIDDLE BUTTON YOUR IPOD THEN WILL RESTART & YOU WILL SEE THE APPLE LOGO

2. WHEN YOU SEE THE APPLE LOGO RELEASE THE BUTTONS AND THEN PRESS THE MIDDLE AND PLAY BUTTON.

3. YOU WILL THEN BE IN DISK MODE, THE IPOD WILL DISPLAY - "OK TO DISCONNECT"
(IF ITS NOT IN DISK MODE THEN REPEAT STEPS 1 & 2)

4. GO TO ITUNES & RESTORE WITH LATEST FIRMWARE

anybody have a solution i also have a problem like this i have no luck the solution above
