DHAKA, May 9 (Xinhua)-- Eight people were killed and ten others wounded in a fire at a 11-storied garment factory in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka Thursday morning, police and fire service officials said.
On duty Fire Service official Bhan Sarker told Xinhua that the fire broke out at the closed Tun Hai garment factory at around 11 p.m. Wednesday night and they put out the fire at 3 a.m. Thursday local time.
Sarkar said they rescued several persons alive from the building and rushed them to hospitals.
Police control room said one deputy inspector general (DIG) of police was among the dead.
Fire service could not ascertain the cause of the fire yet. Most of garment fire incidents in Bangladesh result from short circuit.
After the Savar tragedy which had left nearly 800 dead, Bangladesh government has closed all risky units across the country, Garment officials said Wednesday night.
Bangladesh is one of the top garment exporters in the world and around 4 million workers are employed in the industry.
