'79 Ford Truck Carburetor & engine ?????

I have a '79 for truck i plan on restoring this summer it is a 2wd with a 302 and was wondering what cfm carb. I should get. also what are some other ways to get extra hp without losing too much driveability. i would like to keep it as near original as possible, so forced induction is not an option. also I'm planning on doing most of the work myself so i don't want to do anything too intensive, I am pretty good mechanically but most of my experience has been on newer 4cyl and this is my first old school V8 project thanx
