As for logic, I'm not saying I agree with it entirely, but as a leesor they are responsible to ensure it is properly installed regardless of past installs. They should in theory ensure you haven't messed with the previous setup, as most on this site do :), to ensure you don't fry it plugging it in. It is their equipment, therefore they want to ensure it is properly setup and they don't send you 6 before you figure out that 120V AC is not good on the USB port :)

If wiring or other changes were necessary, it would have been included in the fee.

As mentioned, you may get this back as a credit anyway. I'd phone to inquire!

I have asked Bell to upgrade my old 6100 to a newer 6141 recently, since it is a rental box...

First, I don't recall that the rep told me there is a $75 charge for installation. Secondly, there are brainer for just swapping the receiver....

The guy actually hand over the receiver to me, I hook it all up, and then he has to borrow my phone to call Bell Expressvu to activate the receiver because his cell didn't work.... then he left in 10mins max...

Can somebody tell me if it makes sense to charge $75 for someone to deliver the receiver and activate it ???

Comments ??? :(

I guess I was not clear so let me elaborate on my situation. We are new (5 months) rental BEV customers. Originally we had 3 SD receivers and one HD receiver installed So we have had HD since day 1. Now my wife decided she wanted an HD receiver on a second tv so we called at the end of January and made arrangements for a tech to deliver and install a 2nd HD receiver. So the charges were as follows..

$100 deposit which was charged to our Bell one bill account but on the same bill we also received a $100 credit so net effect....no charge.

$75 installation charge but since we signed up to rent the 2nd HD receiver for one year we also received a $75 credit....net effect no charge.

And yes I am positive about the credits since we have received our bill and confirmed the charges and credits with the billing dept. So this may be a new policy or promotion with rental customers since I have not seen any information on this in any prior forum messages.

So we saw no charges at all of any type for the upgrading 5 months later of one SD receiver to an HD receiver. I couldn't be happier with the billing dept. contacts I have had and for the very high quality of service we have had from the installers. Maybe my situation is unique but my BEV experience so far is miles ahead of the way we were treated by our cable company.

it is a great way to lose customers and why BEV's net adds for all of 2007 were only 2,000 (no, that is not a typo).

Are you sure what you are telling us is accurate? Was your contract with Bell over? If it wasn't then perhaps the $75 was an upgrade fee?

Did they offer you the ability to receive via parcel post rather than by delivery?

The reality is that sending someone out in a truck to deliver a parcel can be an expensive proposition.

If your contract had not expired and you just wanted an upgrade then a $75 fee does not sound outlandish.

Guys, I did phone them last night after spending 30mins on the phone, the rep get rejected when requesting this $75 credit... and I told him to put everything in the note and I have his rep ID for reference in the future...

Today, I give them a call again before lunch, the rep told me that she will request a refund on it, but not guaranteed... I have to check back three weeks later...

If you weren't already using a rental receiver, that was obviously installed by Bell, then this charge is silly. I do see the need to have rental receivers installed professionally, but this line was already installed, for the last rental 6100. Keep your fingers crossed, and hopefully you will be credited

I actually just went through this Thursday night as well... thought I was having Deja Vu when I saw this thread.

Anyways, BEV will waive the 75$ if you ask and be persistent that you are not paying a fee to have a receiver unboxed and set up at your home. Usually requires asking for their supervisor.

It might help to ask the CSR if they think you're too dumb to open a box and plug in a cable after they say a "professional" must do the setup. ;)

It's an assinine fee to charge.

I have my 6100 a long time ago and the contract is over early last year... I have asked the rep that I can pickup the receiver from the Bell store so that they don't have to send anybody to my house, but they said it is required to send someone for any rental receiver... I have no choice...

Really really piss me off...

Absolutely... I told the rep that I am willing to pickup the receiver myself, but they say NO.... and I don't think she mentioned there will be a $75 charge until I found that out from my bill yesterday....

Proably also depends what call centr you get transfer to...

Rule was pretty clear when I worked there
The fee is there and under no circumstances you should promise a free install
Superviors were I worked woudn't even take a call for that matter

If you had to sign a new contract for the rental then install should be free. If no new contract then you should go to retention department and ask for the world.

No matter if a client has a contract or not, when he request an upgrade of a rental unit, or wants an additionnal unit install he hsa to PAY the 75$ charge. That charge is NOT REFUNDABLE! It is completly silly I agree by that's the waty it is! This issue has been discussed previously in many threads...

Not at all... The rental certificate charge, and the 75$ charge are 2 very different things. If a client wants to rent an additionnal unit (which was not the case here, he just wanted a swap) he would have to purchase a rental certificate that is 50$ for SD receivers or 100$ for HD receiver. That amount is charged on a credit card if the order is done throught direct sales on the phone, or on the internet, and fully credited back on the first EV bill after the receiver has been activated. That client would aso have to pay the technician that would come to install the receiver 75$. That charge will appear on the bill following the installation

You can call and complain about that situation, agent could even request a credit (even if technicaly he is not supposed to, cause it's not a mistake, it's the normal charge to do that) but it would most probably get denied at the end by the billing departemnt. The agent mos probabaly will tell you that he is applying a credit, but he is not. CSR's only fill credit request. This is an internet form that gets send to the billing departement, and THEY decide whether they apply it or not

I did ask for speaking with any supervisor during that call, but the CSR said he cannot do that... (lying???)

I will call them again, and again, and again until I hear something more reasonable...

Will keep you guys posted....

Guys... Finally Bell has left me a voice mail saying they will refund that $75 back in my next bill....and apologize...

Case closed....

This is exactly the reason why I bought mine instead of going with rental.
I saved on the so called install fee plus it was on sale at the time I purchased it which made it a no brainer for me.
In addition to owning the receiver outright and not having an additional monthly fee I also received with my purchase the dish, an extra lnb, plus a sw21 switch.

Having to pay for the installation of a rental unit has been in place (and talked about) for a long time now.
