I just got a small block rebuilt and put in my pickup and i replaced the crank the starter syleonid the distributor cap and rotor and the module. But when i tried to start it there was a dragging sound and the engine wouldnt start. I know a little about cars, and ive got it narrowed down to either the starter or the ignition coil. But i dont know what it is. ANd money is a little tight seeing on how i just got the motor rebuilt. So if anyone could tell me if it is the igniton coil or the starter i would apreciate it.

Did you put the ignition leads back properly, the firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. If it turns over alright it isnt the starter. Remove a sparkplug wire and use a screwdriver (with a good insulated handle) to check if you have spark. That should tell you if its your coil. Remember though no spark doesnt mean bad coil it may be something else.

before you go too far I am assuming that your battery is good and all of your battery cables are in good shape and are tightened
