The military has this little policy of don't ask and don't tell. They have gotten rid of many highly qualified people with this stupid policy. It is like shooting yourself in the kneecaps.*
 
They're being open about it, which is a big no no. Heck I even find it unprofessional when heterosexual servicemembers mess around too much and are open with it.
 
It means you are being openly homosexual, the military policy is Don't Ask, Don't Tell. If you show it then you can be discharged, some people use it as a reason to get out.
 
Well the question is how did they find out they were gay. If a sargent finds two of his troops trying to save Ryan's privates in the broom closet then Absolutely kick them out. But if it is a part of their lives that they keep private then they probably wouldn't be kicked out.
