68 tooth Sportster sprockets on FL's?

An '06 has the 5 speed trans. People are interested in this mod for '07-'08 because of the gear ratios in the 6 speed trans. I supposed you could change the pulley on an '06, just not sure why you would want to.

my 07 street glide has a 103 with screamin eagle heads forged pistons a harley super race tuner and big sucker air cleaner 211 cams backed up by a billet cam support plate pro clutch and a 2 into 1 vance & hines power pro pipe she dynoed at 2 shops 115 HP and 110 Torque she is a hell raising asphalt burner i just bought a 68 tooth sportster sprocket should have it tomorrow and will install myself on wed morning after my night shift at work i willl let you know how it goes.

The reason for this is if you run your 07 in 6th gear below 85 MPH for any length of time you will find out the way i did THE HARD WAY that the cheap piece of crap crank shaft and the bearings Harley use's from china cant take the torque at the lower rpm just like the Shovel Heads of the past you run it at low rpm's and you WILL destroy the bottom end. changing to a 68 tooth sprocket will raise the rpm's back to a usable range if you look at all the newer bikes Harley went up to a 70 tooth because thety found the 66 tooth on the 07 bikes was causeing lots of problems and costing them tons of warrenty repairs. The 68 tooth is the only way to fix the 07 6 pseed bikes without the time and cost of changing the belt

So who has done what here and what did it take to to it. I am thinking the front 30 tooth and back 70 tooth. This is from Bobby Woods. Great guy to talk to. I guess I am wondering if I will mess with the cruise. Also was going to try to just change the back to a 70 or just change the front to a 30. It seems they are all getting us to where we need to be I just want to not mess with the IDS if possible, not mess with cruise and 6th gear light. Most of all not mess with crusie. Speedo and 6th gear light are really not that important. SO WHAT WORKS??

I have an Andrews 30T front pulley and a 07+ Sportster 68T pulley. You don't have to change the belt. I used TTS Mastertune to change the speedo and didn't lose cruise or 6th light. While replacing the front pulley I also upgraded to the SE Compensator, and of course I lost the the IDS with the rear pulley. But I having missed it, I think because of the lower gearing. True 65mph is 2700rpm in 6th gear. Overall 6th gear ratio is 3:07, which is a bit higher then the 06's at 3:15 in 5th.

Attached is a PDF of all the possible gear ratio changes for the 07-08 touring bikes at the time I put it together before deciding on the change I made.
Foot note to the rpm's I am running an 180/65-16 which is a bit smaller in diameter rear tire than stock, so the rpms will be a bit lower if you are running a stock rear tire. Also the 65mph speed is corrected with TTS Mastertune to a GPS. Most HD's run 4 or 5 mph higher than actual speed.

i have an 07 roadglide and i do all my shifting around 3000 RPMs. That has me shifting to 6th around 70-75 mph.... It isnt lugging the engine....
Im not drivin 85mph really anywhere out here in So Cal....

...told me to do the Andrews 30t up front and the 70-tooth in the rear on my '09 RKC. He said use TTS Mastertune and no other tuning system to make it right.

I want to to the 30 up front and the 70 in the rear, but cush drive is still an issue, according to Tony, service guy at Iron Steed in Vacaville, CA. He showed me the part on the computer and I don't remember exactly why he said, but he told me the whole thing out back won't hold together with the 70. Just like anybody else here says, they don't wanna lose their IDS (that's the cush drive, right?) cruise control and sixth gear indicator. I called back Bobby to find out what part(s) I need out back to keep it together. He said I don't need no cush drive..."the older ones didn't need it, neither do these. and as far as your sixth gear indicator, don't you know what gear you're in?" Tony told me he'd call Bobby to see what parts we need.

Tony also showed me that he did the 30 tooth up front and that no belt slack was left so he had to go to a next longer belt and shave some width away to make it fit. This was for a RG, though (any difference?)

I just completed the change on my Street Glide (2007) 6 speed after changing out the rear sprocket from a 66 to a 68 tooth. It was a direct bolt on no spacers no new belt nothing but some Locktite and a torque wrench and adjust belt ride! It raised my RPM's about 250-300 at top end making the 6th gear very usable an the biggest differance was the hole shot! Twist the throttle with 115 ponies and 3 Tons of torque hang on! it was the best money ive spent at Harley in a long time worth every cent
