Thanks for the correction. My dealer told me he could get it if I was willing to make the change. I still have not done it though because prior to this I had changed my transmission pully and have been happy with the results.

If you could, maybe get the part number and or application IE year of the HDI or japanese sportster so others can order these pulleys?

Darren:

I changed the tranny pulley to the Andrews 30T along with the H-D #40056-07 136T (1-tooth shorter) belt, and have to say I should have done this a LONG TIME AGO!! Absolutely one of the best mods to an '07/'08, and the IDS is still there doing it's thing.

This Ultra feels like a new bike; and the 6-speed and overall gear ratio is perfect for all riding conditions! The swingarm/belt R&R is a piece of cake. The tranny gear a bit more challenging, but very do-able!

TTS Mastertune System allows a simple mod to the map that puts the 6th gear light and speedo reading right back to perfect output!

Highly recommended!

I have the 30T pulley in my shop ready to go on. I also have the SE compensator to install at the same time.

I just put a new belt on a couple months ago and it looks like I have a lot of adjustment. I'm hoping to use the stock belt rather than buy a new one and pull the swing arm loose to install it.

What do you think?

How much adjustment do you have left with the shorter belt? Do you think you could have got by with the stock belt?

I've heard from a couple guys that say you can do this. Just curious.

Steve:

From Andrew's site:

http://www.andrewsproducts.com/PDF_files/catalog/29_BeltPulleys.pdf

Installing a transmission pulley with more or less teeth than stock requires adjusting the rear axle forward (for more teeth on sprocket) or
backwards (for less teeth on sprocket).
Rear axle position adjustment for each one tooth change on transmission sprocket = + / - .125 inches (3.2mm).
Rear axle position adjustment for each one tooth change in belt length = + / - .280 inches (7.1 mm).
If there is not enough axle adjustment at the rear frame, it may be necessary to use a belt with more or less teeth than the stock belt.

So, dropping the tranny sprocket 2 teeth should require ~.250" more adjustment. If your stock belt will allow this much, then you should be fine.

I found a great deal on the sprocket w/belt, and decided to do both since I was into the winter build. And I just didn't take the time to check if there was enough clearance/adjustment with the stock belt. Should be pretty simple to check though.......

Ratio went from 2.79 to 2.976.............

Again, highly recommended gearing change!

I have a 07 FLHX with a 103" - Pro Pipe 211 cams screamin eagle heads ect. when the bike was stock the gear ratios were ok at best but now with the 103 they SUCK! I just rode 5000 miles to Sturgis and back the gear ratio with the stock 66th rear pulley has to go I learned the 68 tooth Sportster pulley will fit no belt change needed a real simple do it yourself job and found it at chicago H-D # 40352-04 for $117.00

I changed out the front belt pulley to the 31 tooth and when trying to adjust the stock belt (with only 10K miles on it) it was just short of being tight enough. So to the dealer I went to buy the shorter belt ($180). This is on an 07 Ultra.

Knowing now that both the 31 and 30 tooth pulleys require the shorter belt I would have done the 30 tooth pulley. I'll be changing it out to a 30 tooth this winter.

I'm the guy with the Andrews 30t drive pulley and the 07+ Sportster 68T rear pulley. No you don't have to change the belt doning this, almost identical center distance. The 07+ sportsters use the narrower 1" belt.

I ride a 07 Ultra with a few other mod's and I really like this gearing.
I have a 3.06 final drive ratio, 65mph is right at 2700 rpm (GPS matched speedometer). I corrected the speedometer with TTS MasterTune. I think these 96ci bikes like higher rpms anyway.

Yes I lost the IDS, but I added the SE compensator and I haven't looked back.

I have a spreadsheet comparing all the possible gear changes available for the 07 & 08 touring bikes. I posted it here late last year and earlier this year, It didn't draw too much attention, guess you all are just now catching up

i read this whole tread about doing this to 07 and 08s, what about an 06? don't know much about this kind of thing so any information would be great.

thanks, Dan

Hog Yild, I'm hoping to go the same route you did. Do you know for a fact that the 68 tooth Sporty pulley will fit an 09 Heritage Softail?
Thanks.
