This vehicle has a rare configuration that baffles young mechanics. A combination mechanical/vacuum armature called, I believe, a "Throttle Advance," designed to prevent engine stall when the power steering is engaged.Years ago I was told that this is the ONLY model ever produced with this set up. I purchased the car new so it's definitely OEM. Am wondering if any of you older Ford mechanics are familiar with it.It sure is an eye opener to most.

i have always called it the throttle kicker.

it opens the throttle when manifold vacuum is low.
when manifold vacuum is high it stays in the retracted position.

i cant imagine why you say it "baffles young mechanics"

you could say it is the earliest version of the modern IAC valve.
