600 cartoon DVD box set at Wal Mart

Anyone have this, and if so, how is it? Just for reference, I know it includes some Popeye, Tom and Jerry, Three Stooges animated series, and a ton of other stuff.

The Tom and Jerry cartoons in the set are NOT the ones with the cat-and-mouse team.

There was another series named "Tom and Jerry" that came 10 years before the more well-known one, produced by Van Beuren. THOSE are in public domain.

I got a bunch of DVDs 4-5 years ago form walmart that had 150 epsiodes.....not to bad they are great to just pop in when the nieces come over

I got this set at Wal-Mart for 9.99. Most of it's probably pretty crummy, but it's also got some pretty good stuff on it, like some of the Popeye, Gumby, Betty Boop, etc. There are some early Alice comedies by Walt Disney (pre-Mickey Mouse!!!) and some Mutt and Jeff cartoons, among MANY others.

In my opinion, there's enough interesting stuff on it to make it worth getting all the other junk, especially given the low price. It sort of makes a nice well-rounded selection of classic-era cartoons other than Warner Bros, MGM, Disney and Lantz, even if a lot of it's not that great. I recommend getting it.

As a neat, tidy package of public domain cartoons, it's probably the best out on the market. You'll get most of the cartoons that turn up on cheapie tapes and DVD's without having to buy tons of discs.

My only complaints: it only has some of the PD Little Lulus/Audreys, and some astute people have reason to believe that the copies of many cartoons on the set originate from other companies DVD's and tapes. Theft, basically.

Blah, I have seen this at Wal-Mart and it's as cheesy as it comes, it kind of reminds me of those Horror movie box sets that come out with tons of public domain movies crammed into one set. I bought a bunch of these things just for funny titles like, "Vampire in a girls dormitory", "NO! Don't touch me there...!", "Driller Killer", "I bury the living and eat your skin!" and other countless cheesy flicks. This is going to be the same thing but with cartoons, nothing special.

I can't recall. It's something like fifteen stories or soemthing, maybe a bit less. They're about seven minutes long, just to clarify (I don't know if there was a half-hour show or anything, but all the Gumby episodes on here are shorts).

At Best Buy there's a 300 cartoon DVD set which has:
Clutch Cargo
Calvin and the Colonel
Fraidy Cat
Wacky and Packy
Space Angel
Colonel Bleep
Mel-O-Toons
Hoppity Hopper and Uncle Waldo
...among others...

LOL! I use to have VHS tapes with cartoons like these back in the day that my parents bought for me from walmart or the Dollar Store.

I bet you those dvds are all Region 0.

Yeah, the Tom and Jerry on the DVDs are the original Tom and Jerry from the early 30s made by Van Beuren. Interesting to watch the Alice comedies made buy Disney back in the mid 20s...I don't get how the biggest company of them all, Disney, didn't keep their founder's earliest works out of the public domain...unless they just don't care.

FTR, I bought a 350 Classic Cartoon set at Wal-Mart; it was a worthwhile purchase, and had a lot of awesome PD stuff in it, but the cover art had illustrations of Mighty Mouse and Woodt Woodpecker- characters who were not actually in any of the cartoons featured.

So, I'd say buy it, but take it with a grain of salt.
