Hi all,

I'm a new meraber. I'm a 46 year old female from Ohio. Back in Sept. 2002, I had a spinal fusion/laminectomy of my L5/S1. I also had severe siatica, and the nurabness in my left leg has not completely gone away.

However, Saturday, my back was just in knots. I have had pain ever since. I have trouble bending and standing up from a chair. I have had some severe left leg pain as well, but that goes away within a few days. I was working a customer service job all day Saturday, which was alot of standing and walking around the track (drag racing). I didn't fall or bump my back at all. I'm just so worried a new set of problems is coming up since this came out of the blue.

Has anyone ever had back problems this long after a fusion?? Can I contact my family doctor to have him xray me to see if the fusion/cage is still intact--I don't know if something shifted or what. Please help!

Thank you,
Stamper

I believe that 6 years is the usual amount of time for problems to reappear. Fusion is not a permanent fix! So I would say that the dominio effect of the fusion is probably starting to occur. Six years was the time it took me to have daily sciatica pain return. Sorry but that is pretty much par for the course. My fusion was a very long time ago but I had one year of very poor recovery followed by 5 years of improvement only to return to problems at the six year mark.

I am afraid Pooby is right on this one. I would certainly have it checked. You very well could have herniated the disk above your fusion now. I hope not but please get it checked and let us know!!!!

Blessings,
