Just wanted to give a heaRAB up on my condition at the six week point.

I had the 360 two level lurabar fusion and at this point feel like I can do anything....although when I try to be normal it reminRAB me Im still healing...I feel very fortunate to have had the doctor I had and the great treatment at the hospital ...the only trouble Im having is a slight nerve pulling sensation and it goes away after I get to walking at the beggining of the day.

I am pain free...med free...walking 3mi daily....and just all around happy.

At first I had concerns of fusion surgery and now Im soooo glad I did it!
I already have more life back then I did prior to surgery....and Im on restrictions....hmmmmm must of been in bad shape prior to surgery!

I hope everyone has the same luck with thier fusions and/or surgeries.

Devon I am so glad to read about your successful recovery so far! I will end up with a fusion. I met with my surgeon again today and I am not strong enough for the operation. 6 weeks of intensive PT and then I will be having a 2 level fusion. Your update makes me feel less terrified!

Thank you all so much for your support....I hope all of you get better to some degree....I wanted for others to read a possitive outcome with fusion surgery...although Im only six weeks out I do realize things are better!

The most important thing is to get the correct Diognosis and Doctor for the job!

meggs....I wish you the best on your upcomming surgery! Im sure you will do fine.

NLena....I think I am way ahead of the process...my doctor scratches his head with me.;)

Fiona Jo......thank you...that is good advice!...My only problem is I think im 100% already and im not.:dizzy:

vicki....I feel your ahead of the game too...keep it up!

BlueAtlas....you have been one of my favorates!....I always look forward to your advice and help to others.Thank you!

oh yea!.....Ive been wanting to tell you guys that for christmas my wife bought me a percusion massager.....OMG this thing has been so good to me...even when my back was hurting just to have my legs or shoulders massaged was amazing for my mind.....when you hurt all the time from your back A "feel good" is important....dont forget to make other parts of your body feel good.:D (dont use it on your back or area of injury)

TTYL,
Devon

Devon - thank you so much for the post. I had a 1 level fusion on Dec. 30th and this gives me so much hope! You (and others on this board) have inspired me to really focus on the walking, so I'm thankful for that.

Devon, I'm so glad for you! Hooray!!! :bouncing: That's such fantastic news! You keep doing what you're doing, behave yourself, keep up the good walking, and you'll be our new poster child!

Thanks for posting this. This is exactly what those who are contemplating the surgery need to see!

And you're off all pain meRAB?! Wow, that's fabulous! (Now you other back buddies here who are going through recovery right now, don't be jealous and don't feel like you have to strive for that too quickly.)

Yippee!
:) Emily

Alpine....listen to your body....when I started to push on my walks I was doing really good....I did have a few days I opted to not walk because my body was kinda out of it....just let it pass and get back at it.....I walked on a somewhat flat surface and just did the casual walk...no hard fast pace or any of that. I think it pays off...its really the only way to get "good" healing blood flow into the injury site.....I havent walked in two days and today is the first day I can get back at it...its been to cold.....I actually feel more sore than normal because of the two days off...I may do two or three miles today.

Thanky and good luck....Im glad I was able to do something for another....so much was done for me.

Im a firm believer in "pay it forward" so this is very rewarding to me.

I'm glad you said that Emily... I am still on some pain meRAB, but I had my surgery six weeks ago also, (the day after Devon and the same surgery!) and I am so glad I did it. I was in pretty bad shape before surgery (couldn't stand for more than 5 minutes) but I suffered in lots of ways for years. Just being able to take my time walking around a grocery store is great!! I am back at work also. I do have a desk job though. I've been back almost two weeks now. The afternoon's are the hardest, but I'm doing okay. Luckily there are no small children or a husband that need my attention at home, so I just rest rest rest when I do get home. I'm only walking about a half mile a day so far. I could probably do more and I'm going to try. I haven't started PT yet. The doctor prescribed it but I'm waiting on the insurance authorization. (employer changed ins. at the beginning of this year, so that might be part of the hangup.....) Anyway, there are success cases out there. Like many have said, many that stay on the site may be having problems and the successful ones stop posting and go back to their lives, that's why we don't always see it. But the surgery was the right thing for me..... I hope all have a no pain or less pain day! :)

Devon and Vicki,
How wonderful to hear about both of your progress. It assures me that it CAN happen and happen quickly. Im still behind you on many fronts but feel progress and focusing on that. I truly am so happy for both of you and look forward to hearing more of your progress as recovery continues
