Here's the Illinois state record bass on 8 lb line-
The recent catch and release of an alleged 26-inch, 6-pound, 10-ounce smallmouth bass from the DuPage River has bronzeback anglers in Illinois buzzing.
If the measurements are correct, the fish caught by John Kuta of Plainfield on Sept. 19, 2007 would have been a new state record smally, surpassing Mark Samp’s 6-pound, 7-ounce fish caught out of a Fulton County strip-mine lake on March 26, 1985.
Kuta caught the fish on a weedless Rat on 6-pound test line. As he got the fish out of the water, his line broke. But Kuta, 19, was able to grab the fish in the upper lip. An electronic scale used to weigh the fish read 6 pounds, 10 ounces. Kuta was fishing with his father, John Kuta.
