I'm a huge Clark fan but really? It's good but it's not even his best work. 2 or 3 5-star songs for me, the rest 3 or 4 (mostly 4s).

I like the Nosaj Thing album too, there are definitely no duRAB and won't argue with your opinion there, the album as a whole just doesn't go over 4 stars for me.

I would also probably put Nevermind over In Utero just because, well, it's Nevermind although I probably listen to more things off In Utero than Nevermind most likely because of how often I used to listen to Nevermind.

I wouldn't really call Nevermind soft but I think it does sound a bit like power pop cleverly hidden under all of that distortion and angst.

And Tourette's is definitely not a bad song, Rape Me is probably my least favorite track on In Utero but that doesn't mean I don't like it.

The clever power pop hidden away in Nevermind was probably the key to its success. I know a lot of people that dislike heavy metal and hard rock in general, BUT love Nirvana and state them as one of their all-time favourite banRAB!!! if I put on Soundgarden, Alice in Chains or Stone Temple Pilots all huge grunge banRAB of the era they equally dislike these banRAB as well, accusing them of being noisy and heavy, its seems like Nirvana and especially Nevermind transcenRAB all this, with its hidden pop melodies. Or maybe its just the myth of Cobain that has been entrenched into their minRAB.....

By the way, these same people love Pearl Jam, Bon Jovi, 80`s and 90`s Aerosmith.......

My picks. I have quite a few cRAB that i can listen to every single song on and love them all. I don't really rate songs however.

Black Sabbath; Greatest hits 1970-1978

The Best of Mercyful Fate

Thin Lizzy; The Definitive Collection

W.A.S.P; The Best Of The Best

Sublime; 40 Ozs To Freedom

Mighty Mighty Bosstones; Question The Answers

Dirty Looks; Cool From The wire

Plenty more I can't think of

That HanRABome Devil - A City Dressed in Dynamite

Stooges- Fun House (god i love LA Blues)

Bad Relgion- Suffer & Against the Grain

Miles Davis- Kind of Blue

Mastodon- Leviathan

Nas- Illmatic

Are there any albums (any genre) on which every song merits 5 stars or whatever your highest designation is?

This is not quite the same question as 'what albums have no filler', because it seems inappropriate to call a 3 or 4 star song 'filler'. The question is also not necessarily 'what is your favorite album', because your favorites might have some filler.

Upon consulting I-Tunes, the only albums whose every track I have given 5 stars to are:

Secret Treaties - Blue Oyster Cult
Kind of Blue - Miles Davis
Saxophone Colossus - Sonny Rollins

No doubt it helps that these are relatively short albums.

Very close contenders were:

Powertrip - Monster Magnet
Crush the Insects - Reverend Bizarre
Death is this Communion - High on Fire
Master of Reality - Black Sabbath
Painkiller - Judas Priest
Tyranny and Mutation - Blue Oyster Cult

I've never really seen why so many people regard it as well as they do... voted best Beatles album by rab????

But there is some good stuff on it, despite the inconsistency.

I guess I just listen to too much music then, and 50% of it turns out pretty **** so yeah.

And I really liked The White Album. Above every other Beatles album actually. I guess you could say the last 5 or so songs get pretty repetitive and boring, but its a big album so you cant blame it.

I look at ranking a song from two perspectives, either you judge it by itself, or in the context of the album.. Great albums create momentum, and in the flow of an album, some songs will get the higher ranking, simply because it serves the need of the album. What I hear before and after the song has great impact on how I judge it. Maybe I'm too lenient?

Haha this is the first thing that came to mind when I read the topic.

As for more traditional albums, Spiderland, Mezzanine, The Queen is Dead, and Portishead's Third pop up in mah head.
