4th gen iPod nano will not boot past the apple logo?

I can get into Disk Mode ok, the computer will see it there, I can restore it from there, sync it from disk mode and do everything. When it goes to reboot, it never makes it past the Apple logo. when I go into diagnostics mode, everything passes, except the accelerometer. it acts like it is not there. Is the iPod dead?
