Last time on 'Winx Club'... with the girls away trying to find out where Baltor is and what his next move might be, the pixies played! Played "sore that they're considered too small to be part of the action now." But they get some when the witches capture Zing and Glim and try to force them to bring them to the Pixie Village! In a show of 'cute power,' the pixies, Kiko, many magical forest creatures, and some unexpected help from Darcy (i.e. making Digit and a few of the others larger than the witches themselves), the little ones win the day. Even if Baltor came in to stop the Trix from making even further fools of themselves.

And thus, the pixies show that "size really doesn't matter." Or, maybe it does. Oy vey, now I'm confused!
Episode #173 "The Golden Kingdom"
Premieres Saturday, August 18, 2007 at 8 am EST on 4KidsTV (Check your local listings!)
No episode synopsis available.
Once again, no preview, but if you miss the episode, watch it on 4KidsTV's Video on Demand, up for viewing by weekend's end.

This Week's Poll: Who's the most disappointing character? By that, I mean, which of the minor characters deserved to have more screen time, be fleshed out more, and/or had/has the potential to be more than what they ended up being? (The poll assumes as of this point in the series, and also assumes that the writers don't develop them any further in the remaining episodes.) I picked the four characters I think most qualify for that 'merit,' but there's an 'Other' option also if you can think of someone else more worthy.

I knew I almost forgot to do something. That and commenting on last weekend's episode, which I'll do sometime today. Speaking of which, special thanks again to Cloud5543 for being an emergency fill-in for me last week!

i liked the episode but once again 4kids makes the preiew more interesting by saying that musa, flora and stella turn on bloom when really they just are trying to find out how to defeat the dragonfire.

Here are my thoughts on this ep:

1. I got the idea of the very beginning: considering Baltor's & Bloom's Dragonfire are similar, if they can defeat Bloom, they can also defeat Baltor. Very interesting, IMO.

2. So, they're off on a quest to Red Tower to retrieve some "Water Stars" to defeat Baltor. Pretty good story plot.:)

3. Well, by getting stuck in that cell, at least Ophir & Layla had a little time to get to know each other.:)

4. I thought that was a nice little video message Flora sent to Helia. :) Although, seeing Musa putting those shackles on Ophir gave Riven the wrong idea, Thinking that she found someone new already, I mean.:ack:

5. I thought that battle against that "long-eyed" monster was very scary. At least, I liked how Stella was able to dodge it's attacks!:D I'm also glad Ophir was able to help out a little.:)

6. I felt the battle against those winged centaurs at Red Tower was very intense! I mean, it looked like Musa & Tecna got stabbed from the way it looked, IMO! :ack: I DID like how Ophir & Layla were battling those creatures.:D I also liked when Layla used "Magic River.":)

7. What a way for the ep to end: Ophir carrying a badly hurt Musa...just when Riven shows up!:(

I thought this ep was a lot better than last week's! I give it 4 stars!:D I can't wait to see the next ep where they'll each have to confront their biggest fears while in that maze! Should be exciting!:)

4K!dsTV Talkback: Winx Club "The Golden Kingdom" (Spoilers)

Oh, seriously now. Would you really rather 4Kids spoil everything or try to cram a too complicated explanation into their preview? This episode was too complex for the main plots to be shoved into a few second preview. I far prefer being "misled" so to speak than being confused or flat out spoiled. Stop complaining about little things! They're so freakin' trivial it's not even worth it.

So my thoughts...

Not bad. Not bad at all. I mean, not perfect by any means, but no incredible glaring errors or too easily written off supporting characters.

It?s nice to see Layla back in good form. I loved her at the beginning of Season 2 and this is definitely reminiscent of that. It?s also interesting to watch her deal with her conflicting feelings about Ophir. The music scene was a bit too much, mainly because what kind of person forgets the lyrics to their so-called favorite song? But when Ophir isn?t trying too hard (which unfortunately has been the majority of his screen time), he?s a pretty neat character. I like that he?s a magic user and not just another Specialist. I had hopes for Helia being like that. (Instead he gets pretty much written off and replaced by Ophir. *sigh* Well, considering the quality of writing this season, it's not surprising.)

Speaking of Helia, I liked him in this episode. Shocking, I know.

The fights scenes were pretty cool, showcasing some interesting new powers. I liked Flora?s ?return to nature? a lot, though I felt the pixies tying up the eyes was a bit too silly and not necessary. In battle, one shouldn't mess around but simply destroy. Otherwise, bad things can happen.

Looks like the pixies are gone so now they?ve finally got an excuse to not do anything. I rather wish they?d done this at the beginning of the season, so it wouldn?t look so much like they?d been forgotten. They could have had the witch fight nearer to the Pixie Village.

But yeah, I enjoyed this episode and I?m actually sad to be missing part 2. I hope my VCR tapes it okay!

It's nice to see Ophir redeem himself, at least in Layla's eyes, and help the gang fight some of the monsters of the Golden Kingdom. Maybe there's a competent guy that isn't evil on this show after all.

On that subject, it's hard to not blame the writers for trying to hook up Layla, but if it's someone like Ophir who has a great deal in common - then maybe it's not such a bad idea after all. It also brought a return to the Layla we all know and love.

Speaking of messing with relationships... Ophir gets caught in the middle of a misunderstanding with Riven. I bet Riven will try to kick Ophir's butt next episode... but it won't be a beatdown, especially given how powerful magically Ophir seems to be.

"The Golden Kingdom": 3/5.
