August 17,2007 -Episode 4: "Snared"
Discord grows amongst the Defenders as to the place of Adam with the group, meanwhile a mysterious figure stalks the traveling teens.

The Heroes:

Seth - The leader of the Di-Gata defenders, and also the oldest. He is skilled, confident, charismatic, creative, and decisive. He controls the Nova Stone, a powerful Champion Stone which once belonged to his father. However, he is also impatient in battle and headstrong. He also likes to eat, which he can do with his eyes closed, is afraid of giant squirrels and tends to succumb to nausea more than the others due to his weak stomach. Seth's guardian is Kraggus, a giant that constitute himself from any surrounding material, usually stone.

Mel - Patient and level-headed in battle, she is also well-read given the years sequestered in the dojo library. She loves music, and is constantly singing and humming during the long journey. This drives the others crazy, especially since she's tone-deaf. Mel keeps her guardian Draykor in a one-of-a-king amulet around her neck.

Erik - A skilled strategist. He can always seem to find a way around any attack. He is the technological tinkerer and has a good head for designing and building electronic gizmos. He tends to speak in technical jargon, however, when he works on technology, much to the confusion of others. He is the only stone-caster that uses an external device to use Di-Gata stones. He is also overprotective to his sister, Kara. Erik's guardian is Robotus, a robot that can take on many useful forms.

Kara - The youngest of the Defenders. She is very strong-willed and determined. The others (especially her big brother, Erik) always feel the need to protect her, but in fact she is more than capable of taking care of herself. She is crippled without the power boots invented by her brother. She has an afinity for wild life and that is reflected in her guardian V-moth, a giant insect with the ability to fire sonic shockwaves.

Professor Alnar - The old mentor of the young Defenders. He is the brother of the evil Nazmul, but unlike his brother, he is kind and caring. He is sometimes seen by Mel, but only at great times of need. At those times, Alnar is invisible to others.

Adam: A mysterious thief with a heart of gold. His intentions are hard to read for he is as skillfull with his tongue as he is with his stones. He seems to have a crush on Mel. His guardian is Fire Fox.

The Villains:

Lord Nazmul - Once a loyal Wizard of Yan, Lord Nazmul fought for the forces of good alongside his brother, Alnar. But greed, corruption, and the promise of eternal life clouded his mind of all reason. He betrayed his calling by forming the evil Order Of Infinis. His goal is to gain access to enough realm energy to complete a powerful spell that would offer eternal life to him and his followers.

Lord Brackus - Second in command of Nazmul in the Order of Infinis, Brackus is a powerful warlord with an army at his command. He has been at the forefront of the Order since Nazmul's dissapearance all those years ago. He dissagrees with Nazmul's obsession with Immortality.

Flinch - Flinch is the technical master of the Order of Infinis. His main duty is inventing weapons for the order and tracking the Pure Stone. He is constantly nervous and worries more about his safety than anything else. He always ends paired up with Malco, much to his chagrain.

Malco - Once a powerful Defender himself, Malco's quest for power has lead him to the Order of Infinis. Malco has no need for a guardian, and with his immense strength he can tackle even the most powerful of guardians with his own power. He doesn't talk much.

Comments?

Since thy don't air episodes on Friday, I find it unnecessary to have a talkback for the episode until tommorow.

Di-gata Defenders actually airs separately from the rest of the line-up. Remember when they had that show called The Menu? 4Kids had nothing to do with that, and was produced by Fox.

4K!ds has aired many shows as Fox Box and 4K!ds TV that they only got broadcasting rights to. They'll aquire other companies shows to air. So far these include:

G. I. Joe Sigma 6- Done by Hasbro
Di-Gata Defenders- Done by Nelvana
Sonic X- Believe it or not, but Viz Media has the main rights to the show, though they appear to have given dubbing rights to 4K!ds, and FUNi secured the distribution rights
Back to the Future: The Animated Series- Done by Universal
Bratz- Done by MGA Entertainment
The Menu- Done by Fox
Pirate Islands- Done by an Australian group
Stargate Infinity- Done by DiC

Celebrity Moments wasn't offically a show. It was a segment on The Menu that they used clips from to make some episodes, but it's still considered to have been The Menu.

Also, FOX still airs "This Week In Baseball" as a kids show, and it's not affiliated with 4K!ds TV in any shape, form, or fashion, though it typically airs on most Fox affiliates after the 4K!ds block Saturday morning.

thats a lot of non-4Kids shows...

i do remember The Menu previewing Winx before it test ran, but i did not see the actual segment on 'Menu when they discussed with Lisa and the VA cast about the show... ( i was too lazy... )

I remember seeing BTTF, GI Joe, and Sonic X, but i did not tune in to WMAC, Celeberty Moments, Pirate Islands, Stargate, and Di-Gata...

Still, it was good times...

So yeah about the episode...

It's probably the most I enjoyed the show so far. Adam puts an interesting twist on things.

Now if I only understood all those weird combinations...

I had to adjust WMAC. I went and looked it up and found out 4Kids did make it for syndication, though it bombed, so they brought it over to 4Kids TV, where it only bombed again.

Well I wasn't 100% sure I'd have time to do the talkback on saturday and I'd rather have it early than late no? So it would be ready in advance.

Adam does put a nice twist on things... there's still much to be learned about him. A lot of the best episode in the show feature him.

Even though you don't get all the sigil combination it's really just a technical detail not needed to appreciate the show itself.

I remember when Nelvana had announced they were going to make this show. It was two years ago, and they implied that it was an anime that would take the place of Beyblade on Jetix. they didn't get it finished soon enough, since apparently the contract between Nelvana and Disney has expired now, so that's what has allowed it to air on 4K!ds TV. I've been interested seeing how they use dice to create the various monsters, but they plot is more like that of a quest to save the world. I've been getting tired of seeing the same group summoned each week though, so I'm eagerly awaiting to get off of work and watch today's episode to learn more about Adam.

wait, you're saying that Di-gata was supposed to be a JETIX original?
well, that changes everything....
too bad the spot was taken by Yin-Yang-Yo!
I'll try to catch this week's Di-gata eppy on 4Kids.TV Online VOD tomorrow...

No. Di-Gata Defenders was announced to be the replacement show for Beyblade when Beyblade ended, and they announced it would be a dice game similar to how Beyblade was a top game, which made most people have the impression that it would be an anime, including myself. Nelvana had a contract with Disney that would put their shows on Fox Kids. When Fox sold Fox Kids, then those shows moved over to ABC Family and ABC Kids. Disney still had to place their shows on TV. That's why Medabots and Beyblade aired on ABC Family. They were originally meant for Fox Kids. Eventually ABC Family changed their block to Jetix, but Nelvana's contract with Disney was still in place, so those shows moved onto Jetix. When Nelvana started making Di-Gata Defenders, it was with the intention that Disney would extend that contract. Apparently that contract expired though at the end of 2006, since that's when Beyblade was removed from Jetix, and Nelvana was able to negotiate the broadcasting rights in America to place Di-Gata Defenders on 4K!ds TV, though they may have been looking at other companies first. It's ironic though that if Fox hadn't decided to discontinue Fox Kids, then Di-Gata Defenders would have come to the block since the contract would mostly likely have been renewed, and all of Beyblade and Medabots, as well as many of the Jetix shows (Battle B-Daman, Oban Star-Racers, Yin Yang Yo!, etc.) would have aired on Fox Kids. If Fox had continued Fox Kids, then Jetix wouldn't exist.

Adam reminds me a lot of Grass Hop. He has some great comedic moments, and he's not a real threat. He's more of a help.

Now, I'm going to quote myself from last week, but if you look carefully at the list, you'll notice I added one show that we all forgot about: Cramp Twins.
