Thinking about not contributing to my 401k for awhile since the market is not doing so hot and purchasing a Harley. What do you think?

a harley thats what most people have and they are the best kind of motorcycles there are but thats what i think

Business or pleasure ? Take an example from Warren Buffet. The market was descending and he bought shares. The value of shares are down, that is the time to buy.If the management hasn't changed, the product is the same or innovative and there is a glitch in the system that calls for investing especially if you still have good earning power. You would be selling the Harley in under 2 years. There are four for sale within 2 blocks of the house even with their fantastic mileage.

buy a kawasaki, you ain't gonna get warranty support when harley goes out of business!

depends how old you are.. every breath we take brings us one closer to our last.. get the bike, but not at the cost of your retirement. the market is going to be down for a while. now is a good time to invest in the market as it is almost guaranteed to go up in the next year or 2, and you get the biggest return on your money. bike season is over here in ny for the most part, and you can usually work a pretty good deal in the winter months here on a new bike. i say F it.. flip a coin and go with whatever it lands on..

Get a Honda. Night hawks/ Magnas are really good, and affordable
Or a truimph.
More people despise harleys than like them. They'll use more gas, they'll get you a LOT more unwanted attention from cops, and they'll cost a lot more in general.

The fiscally responsible accountant in me would have to go with the 401K. Remeber, you can borrow money from it.
