Is it normal for a 4 year old to create drama at bed-time because he doesn't want to go to sleep?
I have my son use the bathroom before bed (as part of our bed-time routine) and recently he's been refusing to try to use the bathroom. Then as soon as he gets to his room 5 minutes later, he screams he has to go potty at the top of his lungs. We were letting him go then, but he would do it again over and over every 10-15 minutes later, just to get out of his room.
This last week, my husband and I have told him to use the bathroom BEFORE bed only and that he isn't allowed in and out of his room to use the bathroom because we know he's taking advantage of the situation. We watch and make sure he used the bathroom but, he still will scream he has to go, or he will
yell for all different reasons. He says he needs more water, needs another kiss, another hug etc...We don't give in and let him anymore, but it doesn't seem to matter :/
Is this just a normal phase at this age? What are we doing wrong?
Oh, and his bathroom habits are just fine during the day, so he doesn't have a bladder infection or anything like that. He's just using it as an excuse.
