Action star Tom Cruise is heading home to face the wreckage of his marriage to Katie Holmes.
The "Mission: Impossible" actor — who turns 50 today, July 3 — boarded his private jet at about 2 a.m. at the Reykjavik airport in Iceland, three sources confirmed to Us Weekly.
His first stop reportedly will be California, where he owns a $30 million Beverly Hills mansion not far from Scientology's West Coast base.

His beloved 6-year-old daughter, Suri, is in Manhattan at the new Chelsea apartment Holmes rented as part of her escape plan.
Holmes, 33, filed for divorce last week in a unilateral move that left Cruise "deeply saddened," his rep said in a statement.
Despite the bombshell breakup, Cruise remained overseas through the weekend to shoot more scenes for his new flick, "Oblivion."

"Tom just wants to work hard and finish everything on time," a source told Us.
Cruise's powerhouse divorce lawyer Dennis Wasser, who handled his splits from former wives Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, also is in California.
Cruise's fierce adherence to Scientology and its potential future impact on Suri reportedly led Holmes to pull the plug on her marriage and make the bold request for sole legal custody.
The departure could mean she walks away with "virtually nothing" because she signed an iron-clad prenup stacked in Cruise's favor, TMZ reported.

Reports that Holmes was set to get $15 million were absurdly over-inflated, TMZ said, but the "Dawson's Creek" star is seeking child support, which could be eye-popping.
"She's not about the money. She's not that girl. She loves to work," a source told TMZ.
Work purportedly was another sticking point in the failed union.
When Holmes tied the knot with Cruise in 2006, she was the "Dawson's Creek" cast member widely considered the most promising.
But her career has idled for years. Her 2008 comeback movie "Mad Money" tanked, and her recent 2011 miniseries "The Kennedys," in which she played a glamorous Jackie Kennedy opposite Greg Kinnear, was rejected by the History Channel and barely saw the light of day on the Reelz cable channel.
According to Us, she was interested in a possible "Dawson's Creek" reunion project with former co-stars James Van Der Beek, 35, and Joshua Jackson, 34, but Cruise nixed the idea.
"(Producers) were begging her to sign on for a reunion movie," a source told Us. "Tom said absolutely no way and thought going backward would be bad."
But Holmes "didn't care how low-brow he thinks ‘Dawson's Creek’ is," the source said. "She wanted to do the movie and reconnect with her fans. And have fun — something she rarely does anymore."
In a November 2011 appearance on ABC's “Good Morning America,” Holmes said a reunion movie "would be fun. I had so much fun working on that show and I loved everyone so much and I think about it with such fond memories."
