4-The rise of the silver surfer

Well, I am just back from seeing it and I must say I thought the first one lacked something - I didn't know just what until I saw this one. Memorable scenes and pure comic book antics that we all love and want in a movie. And short - not, full of lets make this a big movie in time and space, just short and fast, the way a movie should be.
Great ending - although i did wonder how they would do Galactus.......I miss the purple!!! (I am sure the proper reviewers will complain about the lack of explanation.....but don't they complain when there is to much information?)

As for the silver surfer - top job even if you have seen the best action bit in all the trailers.

One failure is whilst she looks good and wears the costume well - Alba does not act very well - until half way through the movie - very odd? And the Blue eyes make her look kinda scary (in a sexy, I rip you eyes out kinda way). Although when she goes all (nekkid - yep they use the same gag!) you can still see the shape of the eyes but not her nipples (or maybee I didn't notice - NAH!!!).

Overall top film - better then the first and very easy to watch for all the right reasons this time, funny without being camp (apart from the pillock who plays doom).

I thought it was terrible. Awful dialogue, recycled gags and and although there were some great effects (Silver Surfer)others were less impressive or realistic (Mr Fanyastics limbs). I love the comic book genre, but this was just a reason to sell toys rather than a great idea becoming a great movie..

I really enjoyed it too. It's far from perfect but the effects are great and it's just good fun. (Stan Lee's cameo, when he finRAB out he's not on the guest list for the wedding, "But I'm Stan Lee!" Brilliant.)

And I just loved ReeRAB "finest mind in the world" speech when the General mocked him for being a geek! Excelent.

Chris Evans steals the show again...until the Silver Surfer appears that is!

very enjoyable film.... For those who are too critical of it just remember the plot is that of a comic book. what do they expect a work of shakespere?

I know what you mean, there's some intelligent people on here but they tend to over analyse things.....:)

I love the comic book genre, as well as comic books themselves, but I still didn't like it and I certainly didn't expect a work of Shakespeare - just a decent movie.
Just because people don't like it doesn't mean they went expecting one thing and got another.

Millions will disagree with me and love it and that's absolutely fine. I'm still as entitled to have my opinion as are you, which I disagree with, but respect.

I thought it was an entertaining movie with some funny scenes.

I was just wondering i've never read the comic book series but in the comic book is that how the F4 first meet the SS the way it is played out in the film?.

The first Fantastic Four was so terrible, I will not even enterain the thought of seeing this one.

Jessica never acts well. And I agree the blue eyes, as well as bleached blonde hair, do not look good on Jessica. I think they tried to make her look like the comic book version of Sue Storm, who is very whitebread, but that look doesn't work on Jessica because she looks too Mexican to pull it off.

Because I guess that's the official BBFC title it's been given and shown as that just before the film started.

Saw it last night, fairly enjoyable bit of light weight superheroics. All the more refreshing after the bloated excess of Spider-Man 3 and Pirates 3.

I actually felt it could have done with 15mins or so more, to flesh out the Silver Surfer's character. Could definitely have lost some of the wedding jitters talk of Sue and Reed. The SFX pretty much held up, apart from Reed's 'stretchy' dance. Worst offenders in the acting stakes are taken by Julian MacMahon's Doctor Doom and Jessica Alba. Boy, is she scary with her blonde hair and blue eyes. How they can make Jessica Alba unsexy is beyond me. If they wanted a blue eyed, blonde haired Sue Storm, why not just hire an actress that fitted the bill in the first place? It does her a disservice. The Thing still rocks though!

I guess there'll be a number 3 even though we probably don't need it, but that's never stopped film bosses before...

Seen it and found it very enjoyable. I like that it doesn't really pretend to be anything more than it is - just a bit of great entertainment, with some fun dialogue and good set pieces. It's not clever by any means but it is really enjoyable - brilliant popcorn movie.

Chris Evans is the star of it for me - I'm glad they gave him a bit more to do than act like a d*ck this time. It was good to see him add a more sensitive, less cocky side to the character.

Yeah I think I read somewhere that bleaching and dyeing her hair for the last film left it a mess so she opted for a wig this time. I don't think it's a bad wig as such but it really didn't look right on her. Her skin colouring was all wrong.

Finally, some fun in the stupidity. Silver Surfer was a genuinely fun movie. I ended up leaving the cinema with a smile on my face and spring in my step. In comparison, I was exhausted after watching Pirates: AWE. I was downright depressed after seeing the mess that was Spider-man 3. FF:RotSS is by far the best summer popcorner so far this year. I don't doubt that it will be kicked into touch by Transformers or Potter, but basically it was 90 minutes of Saturday morning cartoon, comic book, family-friendly entertainment.

And no... I don't mind that Galactus was a cosmic doomcloud (although there was most definitely something tangible in that cloud) or that the SS was powered by his board. It worked, and didn't suffer from the current bane of intentionally banal, Hollywood films... attempting to make them "dark".

Ick.

A solid hour an a half of entertaining fluff - something this summer has been sorely lacking thus far.

This was an improvement on the slightly dodgy first movie for sure, but I still feel there is more potential from these characters.

The Silver Surfer was done brilliantly, and all the chase scenes involving him were great, and there were some good special efects, particularly at the end when they world was being destroyed. It was good to see the London Eye being used as a set piece too!

I don't buy Sue and Reed, mostly because I think Reed has been miscast. I have no problem with the others, I think Ben Grim is great, Chris Evans has that cheeky role down well, and although I dont fancy Jessica Alba ("The sexiest woman in the world"), I quite like her as an actress.

There are too many cheesy lines, and bad jokes, and stuff that doesnt work, but the big things, it does get right (Johnnys comments to Sue before the wedding being a good example).

So although it wasn't the great film I think it could have been, it had too many good moments to dismis it completely. And if they do a third film, if it is as much as an improvement as this was from the first, it would be great. No Dr Doom though, please!

Movie 8 Rating : 6.5/10
