can somebody give me solution why i cannt restore my iphone 3gs with custom firmware even original firmware also cannot be restore what is the problem im confusing bro help...................?

A simple answer: Apple doesn't allow you to do so.
There is only one solution to do this: If you backup your shsh certificates (specific for every phone) then you can backup to the version you backed up. Right now you can backup version 4.0.1. Even if you had 3.1.2 installed, you can only back up version 4.0.1 right now, because Apple issues only certificates for 4.0.1. Maybe you think going "back" to firmware 4.0.1 won't help you now, you might be right. But you may think different in a year or so.

Yes, you cannot. No solution if you have no shsh backup.

To restore an iPhone 3GS, you need a signed firmware file. Apple has stopped signing iPhone OS 3.1.2, which means that iPhone 3GS users cannot restore using iPhone 3.1.2 or older firmware files. That means those of you 3gs or iPod Touch 3 users that did not rush out and store your TSS in Cydia or Rock are screwed and cannot restore anything but 3.1.3.

try to edite C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts by adding
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
and try again

If you don't have shsh backup for 3.1.3, then you will NEVER get it anymore, no matter what version you have installed right now. Without 3.1.3 shsh you cannot install even original firmware. Modifying the hosts file is when you (Saurik server) has a backup of your wanted shsh file.
