3g iphone jail break....IM LOST!!!?

So im following tutorials on how to jail break my 3g phone..I downloaded redsnow and the correct firmware. But when open redsnow i browse for my firmware and its not highlighted ( I cannot select it) I've re downloaded the firmware 3 times and still i cant no luck..what do i do im pulling hair im so stressed!!!
