3G Coverage on Tmobile?

Can anyone tell me if I buy an unlocked phone and want to get 3G coverage on tmobile, do I need to make sure the phone can operate on both of the t-mobiles 3G frequencies: 1700 and 2100 mghz? Or is one band enough?
