hello all
I am 26 years old from eastern KY and have been a addict for many many years about two years ago I was put in custity for dui and opiate addition while in custity a local DR. started a suboxone program for the inmates who where being hospitalized from there WRAB. I was very glad because the last nine years I had not went a day with out oxys and/or roxys, perks you get the point. Well I had a 240mg a day habit and was very sick I went the first nine days in jail with nothing and I thought my WD where starting to decrease lol but no they stayed as strong as every for 9 full days and night on the tenth day the doctor called me up to an office after talking to him for about 30mins he gave me 2, 8mg suboxone and told me to see how that helped, over the next couple days he raised me to four 8mg a day. after 6 months I got released on parole in oct of last year and my parole officer hates suboxone the first day he told me I had to get off of it but after that he hasnt said anything else to me .so yesterday I go and see him I fill out my forum name address phone doctors and meRAB that im taking just like every other visit for the last year .He must have something up his a$$ because the first thing he said was "I thought I told you to stop taking that sh#t" you have seven days if your not off the subs your going back to jail for the four years left you have on parole I just dont know what to do coming off 32mg of sub in 7 days.My wife wants me to fight it because I have never done as good as I have being on the subs I take it the right way I haven't done any other drugs I even quit smoking pot .I can go back to jail and stay on my sub or go threw some very bad WRAB I have a lot to think about
How hard do u guys think it would be to quit cold turkey
Thanks for reading JS

Hello JS

I am with your wife on this. See if you can fight it. I think coming off 32 mgs of sub cold turkey would be enough to send anyone around the bend. Treatment with suboxone is as acceptable as Methadone maintainence. I do not believe that a parole officer has the legal right to make a medical decision for you. I would ask whatever doctor is prescibing for you to intervene here.

I have no idea who to approach on the parole board concerning this, but I would make as many calls as it takes until you find someone to help you. Even tapering off Suboxone can prove very difficult for many. To jump off at the dose you are taking is just plain idiotic.

I really don't think a parole officer is within his rights to demand you do this. He isn't an MD!!

I really wish you all the best in this. Keep us posted.

With hope

Hello JS,

Absolutely, positively you CAN NOT just stop taking Sub if you are at 32mg. The withdrawal can kill you.

First thought, print out these replies, it may help.

Second, if you are able to, get ahold of the doctor from prison - he will back you up on this for sure. I don't understand why a PO would demand this of you - it's obvious he doesn't know much about Suboxone.

I have only been on Sub for 7 months, however I have read many posts about it. The ones that stand out, explain about tapering. People have a hard time getting off "2mg," yes 2mg. I remeraber reading that folks had to use a razor blade and take slivers off the 2mg pills till they were down to just a crurab.

I hope you are able to get help with this. Let us know if you do - Good luck.

Sincerely,
emsmom

I agree with Reach, this does not seem legal on his part to demand this of you. That is medical treatment for a real disease. Speak to your Dr. make as many calls as it takes. Speak to an attorney.. I don't care what you have to do but jumping off at 32 mg, let alone 4 seems unthinkable to me.

Good luck and please keep us posted. You will be in my prayers!

FIGHT!!!! FIGHT!!!!! FIGHT!!!!

Jumping off of 32 mg of sub is insane! Find a drug detox doctor to back you up and who will call the parole officer and say that you are on a program to taper down. Immediately start a program to taper down to show that you are doing what you said you would. Contact a judge if you have to and explain that what the parole officer is asking is unsafe. Ask for a new parole officer.

if you were on a b/p med or insulin prescribed by your dr. could he tell you to stop taking that too?? it would be different if you were buying it off the street but with a legal script he has NO right to tell you to stop. i was on sub 15 months and i hate it--it's a horrible drug that takes 4EVER to w/d from and thats after tapering down to .5mg! but jumping off 32mg is insane--actually that dose is insane! sub has a ceiling at 16mg and going over that justs wastes the sub and causes bad side effects. most people feel best at 2--4mg. you could cut your dose in 1/2 tomorrow and not even feel it. try to taper down asap and contact a lawyer.

my god that is a lot... i jumped of 2-4 on my 8th day now trying not to relapse. pain is gone but i am weak and mind feels all messed up and i feel depressed. thought 5 days would be enough, but after the pain you body takes awhile to create the chemicals you need to feel you. it can take weeks to a month to mentally get adjusted. so i highly suggest weening but if you can fight that many mg cold turkey go for it. i'm barely dealing with the 2mg jump.

This is not only illegal, but highly unethical. Talk to a lawyer. You have a case for some one to make lots of money and get an idiot out of the probate system.
