Had my 3100 for about 3 or 4 years now with no problems in service. The occasional black out in a bad storm and that was it.

Recently ive been losing sat signal for a little bit then regaining it later. i ignored this as it was not very frequent but now i have no signal or so it seems. I am able to see what channel, show and correct time it is from the lettering at the top of the screen but i dont see any audio or video. all i get is the error message saying "signal is unavailable".

had a professional install done and have called tech support twice now with both calls being a waste of time, not solving anything. Like i said i hadn't had any problems up until this last few weeks but cmonn im paying for this stuff. Any thoughts

thanks

EDIT

im only getting signal on transponders 2,4,6,8,10 on 91

and my signal has dropped to 61% from its usual mid 70s

Sounds like hardware failure. Do you have another LNB or receiver or can you go to a friends and try your stuff there?

Do you have only that receiver? Or do you have others as well?

If you have more than one receiver I would do a swap of the receiver...when you put the receiver in another room, do the problem follow? Are both receivers having an inependant line goign to thedish or is there a splitter used?

Receiver may be failing.
One or both of your LNBs may have died.
Switch may have failed.
Cabling/connector may have gotten nicked or corroded (this is my bet)

Whithout the info on how many receivers he has it hard to say. It could be:
-Installation problem (use of splitter)
-Receiver
-LNBF
-Cabling

This is exactly what happened to me two summers ago. Replaced the RG6 and connectors, and have had high 90's strength ever since. Also verify that the cabling is RG6 or better.
How long is the cabling run?

YET ANOTHER "even" or "odd" transponder only problem with a 3100

See this: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=66413

More evidence it ain't hardware or software, but EV screwing with the signal.

well thanks for the quick replys

i only have on lnbf and reciever unfortunately.

i have no splitters in the line, and am using fairly high end coax cable to direct connect from the lnbf to the reciever.

the cabling is a longer run , maybe 50f +-10f but that really cant be helped.

EDIT

and if it is the unfortunate hardware problem, any thoughts on where i can go to replace my defective hardware

1rst step:Find a friend, neibourgh, familly memeber who has Express Vu...bring you receiver there and test it. Does the problem follow? Yes.. Receiver problem... No... Step 2

2nd step:If it's a harware problem call our customer service. You can get a refurbished 3100 for 49$ +12$ shipping&handling. You can also buy a brand new one at the Bell Store or autorised dealer for 99$

If it was not a hardware problem change the cable going from the dish to the receiver. Does it solve the problem? No, go to step 3

3rd step:Call customer sevice and get transfer to TECH3 to get a new LNBF (cost is I belive 89$)

Step 1 or 2 should solve your problem...

Taxwit we have no way of screwing signal on just part of the transponder....

Thanks for all the earlier imput. my job hasnt really allowed me to do much about this until now. So i finally took the reciever in question to a friends house. The reciever downloaded the updated guide then played the current channel without an issue. So i go hmm and bring it home and i hook it up and low and behold it works (wierd) so i watch a little tv and head out for the evening, only to come back and try to watch tv in the morning but the receiver has reverted itself to its old ways(see first post).

So i called bev tech again today and explained this for the 5th time now to a tech agent and basicly the only solution he could give me was the replacemy lnbs or whatever(magic eye he refered to it as) for a cost of 150$ (75 for the piece and 75 for instal).
So my question now is, does this sound like it will fix my problem because im not locked in with bev anymore, my 2 or 3 years are long done so why should i pay 150 for a single piece of an older model sattelite dish when i could get for $0( with credits) a new dish, receiver and pro install.??

so yeah any thoughts or advice on any other sol'ns i could try would be great

ps
i did check the ends of the cable, took off the lnbs and checked the cable connection everything was just fine , put it back on and still have the problem
ty

Before I go ahead and change the LNBF I would try first to change the cable going from the dish to the receiver

then

If the issue is not fixed I would go ahead and change the LNBF

Actually, I'd start by checking the alignment of the dish. I would say the LNB failure is the least likely (they usually fail completely). Second most probable is a bad connector/cable.

And if you do have to replace a lnb buy one off ebay and do it you self, don't pay no $150 you can easily get one shiipped for $20.

My "even transponder only" issue turned out to be a bad LNB. Got a new one and it works fine now.

Just correcting Barter's post...

A LNBF is 69$, not a 150$. It comes with a one year warranty

Plus the $75 Service Call Charge, would equal $144 plus Tax.

$150 was close enough for me.

That's only if he gets the professional install...

HE could have the LNBF shipped by tech 3 and install it himself...
