This is a reminder that the PPIs work best when taken 30 minutes prior to meals. I had responded to someone that I thought it didn't matter much, but there is quite a bit of evidence it seems that 30 minutes prior to meals is the optimum time. If you take only one dose a day, the optimum time to take it is 30 minutes prior to breakfast - and then you really must eat something. I'm bad about skipping breakfast or just grabbing a cup of tea, but I read that this reduces the effectiveness of the medicine by 30% (if you don't eat 30 minutes after taking it). Also, we talk so much here about which PPI works the best, but research continues to indicate that they're all about equally safe and effective.
