Paula, I am looking to go back to work in a few more weeks myself and I too don't know how I am going to make it. Maybe if I enjoyed the job more it would be easier. But I only have so much sick leave, you know the story.

I drove for the first today to Starbucks about a 10 minute drive. It was tough and wore me out but I did it. Getting in and out of the car, pressure of the seat on my back etc. But wow, was it nice to get out on my own. Like a mini-vacation. Of course now I am beat but that's good. Maybe I'll sleep good again tonight.

Paula, sorry to hear that it wasn't a complete success sleeping in your own bed. I hope things get better soon. We are all in this together.

Eureka! I slept last night. I took my walk at around 8 pm instead of in the moring, took a two Tylenol PM's at 9:30 pm, hit the sack at around 10:15 and I slept until 6:30 am this morning. What a difference. Maybe the tide has turned.

Wow, you drove yourself! Impressed, and envious! At least you managed that drive to Starbucks!

I drove to the orthotics place on Monday to have my brace adjusted. I should say, I was driven there. 45 min drive there and back, about an hour in their office. Collapsed when I got home, pain and exhaustion. The brace was uncomfortable in the car, every bump hurt, and my endurance level was floating somewhere near the bottom.

I work about 15 miles further down the road. I am very worried about the commute and the long day and yes, I don't enjoy my job as much as I used to so that's adding to the tension. If I'm willing to take a 30% salary cut I can take 6 more months of short term disability but there is no way my doctor would approve that and ultimately it wouldn't be good for me either. As it is, I'm hoping I won't have a problem pushing for the end of the month when I see my doctor tomorrow. He's been in the office seeing patients all week in a raised leg cast on IV antibiotics.
