I had 3 Level (L3-S-1) fusion on March 17th. I am doing well except for nerve pain around my ankles. At least that is what I think it is. I am walking about 2 - 3 miles a day and my back feels pretty good. But this is getting worse. Has anyone else had this experience and what have you done about it? Should I be concerned? Thanks:)

I don't know if you should be terribly concerned, but I do think you should let your dr. know about this if you haven't already.

It could be a nerve that has been slowly recovering from damage or it could be from scar tissue but as much as you've been walking, I wouldn't think so.

Thanks. I did something different tonight and walked on the treadmill and then got in the pool at our local Y. I got the pain to go away for a couple of hours. I let the doctor know and he is taking a look at the films I had taken on Monday. Thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate it.

If you weren't very active for a period of time prior to surgery, you may just be suffering from using muscles and ligaments that haven't been used in awhile. Have you tried resting for several days to see if the pain goes away? The fact that you have it in both feet makes me wonder if it isn't an overuse issue.

Not that it's relevant, but, I had a one level fusion in Jan. and I couldn't walk 3 miles if my life depended on it!! :dizzy:

Hey Delaware I agree with MM and I think walking 2-3 miles a day is great but I am glad you did call your doctor. Let us know what he says and maybe you should cut back a little on the walking and see if maybe you are just pushing yourself too soon.

Take care
Linda

Thanks both of you for the advice. I have cut back and we will see what the doctor says.
