Hi,
I was wondering if anybody has had any good results from a fusion?
I have just had my pre-op medical and i am waiting for my date to come through for a 3 level fusion S1-L3.
I have just read a few threaRAB from people with bad fusion results or will not have the fusion because of a low percentage for success(30%).

I have had a decopression and a discectomy, but my back is so unstable and keeps going into massive spasms,(hospitalized twice, for 2 weeks)
I have had all the epidurals, facett joint injections, full plaster cast i can take and nothing seems to work.

My surgeon says that the only option left is to fuse,
I have not had my letter yet with sucess percentages and recovery period etc my surgeon said that it will be sent out soon.
Can anyone suggest what a good success percentage would be for this kind of surgery?
I am 42 with 2 young kiRAB and getting a bit nervous !

Cheers Martin

I had a 3 level fusion on March 17th - the same 3 levels you are having done. I am 95% pain free and expect to be completely pain free in the next couple of months. I would ask your surgeon some key questions: what transition problems has he had? Is it anterior or posterior surgery? Is he working with a second surgeon who will handle all the opening and moving of the stomach organs, major vessels etc,? I would search him for complaints as well as research he may have done. What do the physical therapists say about this surgeon and his other patients? I went out of state to have my surgery and it was the best thing I have ever done. There were to many complaints about the surgeons in my small state. I have no doubt I will have my life back when I get done healing. Remeraber, you want a surgeon who does does this surgery routinely a d if possible who teaches residents to do it. Also, do other surgeons recommend him as the best in the area? Good luck!
