i ruptured a disc 3 months ago with right leg pain and had a laminotomy to fix it on june 18th and everything was going great and all my leg pain was gone until i decided to try pitching golf balls in the backyard..........make a long story short i have re-ruptured the disc on the left side and have severe left leg pain and am having another laminotomy done next week.....my question is has anyone on here had 2 laminotomies to repair the same disc and if so how did it go?....i feel that if i do as the dr. orders instead of chipping golfballs that it will fix it..........thanks and any info will be greatly appreciated

kmeyer74,

I have heard of people having microdiscectomies after laminotomies to fix a disc that has reherniated, but never a 2nd laminotomy for it. Did you ask your doctor about this or if there are alternatives to another laminotomy? Did the disc reherniate in the same location or in a different location?

Hi k,

I just had a lam about 3 weeks ago and am still in pretty severe pain. I just had an ESI yesterday to try and settle the nerve but my surgeon said if that didn't help, we would do another mylegram, and if the disk has re-herniated, he would do the surgery again.

I just assumed that means another lam, like your doc is saying, but I don't have confirmation on that...just an assumption...and we all know what they say about those.

Perhaps it'd be a good idea for you to get a second opinion from another surgeon. I went to four different docs before I was comfortable with the surgery and the doctor performing it.

Please keep us posted and don't give up hope.
