She really is.

I love that you can see her changing. At first I thought she was overreacting, but after I watched the movie a couple of times, I understood what she was doing. :nod:
 
Yess! I loved this movie. But I understand that Sandra and Viggo's characters couldn't be together... it woulda been nice, but predictable...

I love when they do the mock play of the soap opera that Andrea loves. And then they give her words to live by.

"Don't ever be someone's slogan, because you are poetry."

I really enjoyed this movie, but then I love movies about people in rehab, kinda like I love Girl, Interrupted. Also I'm a huge fan of Elizabeth Perkins, and I could watch her all day long, especially when she's on Weeds, now that's the show to watch.
 
Oh, it totally, 100% makes sense. And I got that, too, when I saw it.

But that would be the rational part of me talking. And, I'm afraid to say, that part doesn't control a whole heck of a lot in terms of my response to movies. :lol:

I wanted some sort of epilogue, or some tag on the movie, a "Five years later..." sort of thing where you see them either together or meet again and you get the feeling that, this time, it's going somewhere... :sigh: Oh well. Still a good movie. :D
 
It made sense, though, I didn't see that explanation on the movie itself. I mean, people would expect them to be together so if only the director showed that 'it's too soon for them' on the film, itself, then the audience might've been less adamant in really loving the movie.
 
You can say it spoiler space and then only people who want to read it will read it. :nod: Plus, the movies been out forever, we can talk a little more openly about it.
 
In the DVD commentary the director explains that a lot of people wanted Sandra and Viggo to end up together. But that one of the reasons she made the movie was because she was a recovering alcoholic herself and had been through rehab (she modeled the movie after her own experiences), and she knew that two former addicts together wasn't such a good idea, especially soo soon.

Gwen needed to be with someone who could be strong for her or be alone. Viggo wasn't there yet, I mean, she was just out of rehab and he was still in there when she left.

I would've loved them together too but it makes sense.

That's what I thought of, too. The director started with having them spent the night watching that soap and nearly kissing each other, and the next thing I knew he got less screentime. I dunno, it would've been better if Sandra and Viggo ended up together.
 
And see, that's part of the problem I had with it - it felt like the director couldn't decide if the film was supposed to be a romance, or drama about addiction.

But that's cool to disagree. :)
 
:lol: I should read better. My sis told me the thread for Cillian's movie was started...oy.
 
I love when Viggo picks her up (when she fell out of the tree) and brings her in (it's his first day/night and he's totally drunk) and the night clerk is all "You can't bring a woman in!" and he says "I wasn't going to keep her!" :lol:
 
The only thing that really "disappointed" me about this movie is that it didn't end with Viggo and Sandra... I don't know, walking into the sunset together, I guess.

I loved everything else about it. Everyone at the rehab centre, the flashback usage, the relationship between Gwen and her sister... I loved it.

I thought it was just okay. I adore both Sandra Bullock and Viggo Mortensen, but somehow the film disappointed me a bit (it was great overall, but didn't have follow through).

But then, I tend to have issues with films about addiction. I'd much rather see something a bit more hard-hitting, and I think this had all the potential but didn't quite make it.
