And I'm not feeling much better. I'm getting really discouraged. I feel like I'm in a fog...lightheaded...dizzy spells and no motivation at all. I just feel like sitting in a corner and staring all day. It comes in waves. I'll feel fine and then it hits me.

I was on Zoloft and then Lexapro before this. I was really hoping the Citalopram would work. I go back to my psych at the end of January. Do I just need to give this more time? Its been almost 4 weeks and still no benefit. I'm getting really impatient. :(

Hi,

Just wondered what dose you were taking, as generally my doc starts me of on 10mg which I have read have no benefit what so ever only to get the body use to the drug, 20mg is the required dose.

Thanks

hi sarah i was also on citalopram ,i found that they really took the edge off my panic disorder and so my depression eased .
I did feel a little tired sometimes and felt like a lump of jelly ,so relaxed but it was much better than suffering and my sleep pattern was brilliant.
The medication is there to get you out of troubled times .
You say that you feel its not working and you are discouraged but medication is just part of the many components to help you get better.
Im off the med now because i forced myself to go to gym and do exercise which really helped.
I forced myself to go out socialising ,hard at first but now i love it and i meet lots of new frienRAB which is vital for depression recovery.
I also eat healthy too and regular breakfast .you are what you eat.
I took a great interest in depression as to why something in the mind can bring a human being to their knees so when you understand depression you are in a much better position to beat it . Hope its helped.

I have had similar struggles on citalopram (Celexa), treatment for panic. I had vertigo, heart palpitations, and muscle twitches and would have some very severe panic attacks even though I was on the medication. I have experienced the same frustration you have and have avoided upping the dose for a few years because I was worried it would just get worse. I even worried that I was bi-polar II.

But recently, my doctor took me off the other drug I was taking, Wellbutrin, and doubled the dose of the Celexa. I feel absolutely fantastic. I don't know if it was cutting the Wellbutrin, or the increase in Celexa, but I wonder if you simply aren't on a high enough dose. It is one of the weaker meRAB, from what I understand.

From experience, I do know that the symptoms you describe get very severe if you go off the Celexa cold-turkey, so I DO NOT recommend that.
