2011 Ford Escape 4x4 system?

Hey all, I have a quick question about the 2011 Escape's four wheel drive system. I test drove one but it was a 2x4, so I wasn't able to see if the 4x4 is a full-time system or not (I couldn't see if there was the 4H,4L etc switch in the center console or anything). It's not that I don't trust the full-time system, I'm sure it detects when you're slipping and all that. But personally, I prefer having a switch and doing it myself. Does anybody know if the '11 Escapes are the full-time system or if, for lack or a more sophisticated way of putting it, it has the switch on the console and the driver chooses when to put it in 4x4? I'd like to know if it just has the one mode, and if it's full-time, or if I have the option of 4 high and low. Also, I don't really get the difference between the full time 4wd and all-wheel drive--aren't they kind of the same thing? If somebody could explain that to me it'd be an added bonus :) but mostly I'm just wondering about the Escape's system. Thanks in advance! I'm trying to decide between this and the Liberty, and this gets the edge with gas mileage. But I do like the Liberty's off-road capability and the, um, not full-time 4wd. Thanks again for any help!
