2010 Street Glide Front Axle Covers

At my wits end....this has got to be the most pathetic question ever.

2010 Street Glide FLHX
Bought Willy G Front Axle Covers PN# 43163-08A
Left one goes on fine

Right side will not go on all the way and comes about
1/4" from touching the fork. Obvious observation shows
covers are more than deep enough. I also noticed that the
covers taper in which seems to be the problem.

Use rubber mallet gently?

You don't per chance have the set screw installed too far in while attempting to put them on do you?

Set screws have not been taken out of package yet.

Have you tried swapping sides?

maybe slight obstruction in the casting where a dremel might take of it

LOL, had the same problem last night, smacked it on there good with a rubber mallet. Now I am worried I won't be able to get it off when I need to. Time will tell I guess.

The only way it is going to go on is with a grinder. Heading to the local HD tomorrow to get the scoop on what the problem is. Doesn't seem right.

Is the interior side of the hole in the right side of the axle flush with the fork? I ask because the axle may not be installed far enough to the left and that's why the cover doesn't reach the fork.
