2010 RKing Classic

Just traded my 07 deluxe in for a new classic. Put rheinhart slipons on and way to quiet. Riding position sucks. Sit too high, handlebars suck so guess the only option is too throw money at it to make fit. Need a low seat that sits back further, apehangers, and a solution to make these pipes sound loud. Need help on seat choice also.

First, congrats on new RKC.

What color did ya get?

Are you sticking with stock bike at 96" or what? I'm not an exhaust expert by any means, but shorter, bigger pipes equals higher dBs, no? Depending on future engine mods, I like BUB stuff mahself. I know they don't make the loudest, but it sure do sound like music to me.

You must be kinda tall to be saying the kind of stuff you think you need. I'm 6'2" and still have stock seat and bars on '09 RKC.

One of the things I've been contemplating ergonomically is the bar situation. I hate apes, especially super tall ones, but a guy I talked to the other day at Iron Steed in Vacaville, CA said that his mini-apes gave him beaucoup leverage, because his hands, arms, elbows and shoulders were aligned in a position of strength, much like how your arms and such are aligned when you do a bench press. He said that he has to be careful at times not to oversteer because the effort required is minimized (as good ol' Johnny Carson used to say for effect, "I did not know that...")

I'm gonna start a new thread in a minute asking advice on a few things for my '09 build overall (I'm always asking about stuff and then re-asking, and one guy got pissed, but thank God for this forum...you guys are the best!) Anyway, I wonder if there's any mechanical advantage to having beach bars (my personal favorite artistically for a RKC, but admittedly, I've never ridden with them. All I know is that the stock bars (Semi-buckhorn?) are okay, but I know I could do better, given my reach. That being said, your arms are probably longer than mine.

Seat-wise I'm goin' RKC Solo. The style matches sweetly with the leather bags, but it's deeper dished than stock. I feel sometimes on longer rides that me arse winds up on top of the stock seat hump separating pilot and passenger, so that I'm not sitting in the seat during those times. I hope for the sake of style that I don't wind up with me arse on the fender with the solo saddle!

If you really want the bike loud you're going to have to swap headpipes to get the catalyst out.

I'm 6'4", I rotated the stock bars forward so they're more comfortable until I put a set of apes on it. I agree on the seat though, for taller people it's too far forward. I've had suggestions of the Brawler solo seat, the Corbin Hollywood solo seat, and the tallboy conventional seat. Wonder what a good Mustang option is, too.

I put full length Cobra duels on mine and swaped the stock bars out for Heritage style bars. Worked good for me.

So are you on of those that buys a bike without taking one for a test ride or renting one?

I have an 09 RKC, I got it after riding a 1200 sportster for several years, so it was like riding a couch for me. I do know what you're saying about the ergonomics of the bike though. I fully agree that the bars are too low. I've heard a lot of people who really like the heritage bars. A lot of police RKs are running heritage bars if that says anything. I did a test ride on a RKC with 14 bars and that was super comfortable. I am going to get a fairing so I'm waiting to get my bars until then.
As for pipes, I went with the jackpot slipons. A little quiet but a really good tone. swapping out with their head pipe soon for a little better power and sound.

Yep, I'm one of those guys senior chief. I've always liked the look of the roadking and never had bags on any other bike. The RKC looks awesome with the bags, just doesnt fit my fat ass. I didn't research well this time so hmmm, totally my mistake. Nothing money cant fix. I was just disappointed with the stock setup. My softail deluxe on the other hand was comfortable from the get go and I put 46000 miles on it with the stock seat and bars and the vance and hines long shots were awesome sounding. I asked the dealer for the loudest pipe they had and they recommended the rhienhart slip ons. Nice deep sound, just doesnt set off any car alarms. I'm 5'11 and the seat must be built for a 7 footer. My reverse isn't working well. Lookin tio buy a sundowner deep bucket and either some mini apes or hertage bars to bring the bars back without denting the tank. My wife thinks the pipes are too loud now so I told her I'd replace them. Wait till she hears the complete vance and hines system I'm considering buying. This system is only $720 and its complete with header pipes vs the 625 I paid for slip on Rheinharts from the dealer. Was trying to find the least expensive way to fix my exhaust woes. I see header pipes for $429 also. I listened to pipes on Utube with the cat removed and the sound wasn't much different than stock. So if anyone is interested in a set of Rheinharts let me know.

I had Rineharts on my 05 RKC they were plenty loud. Thought about getting quieter pipes on my 2010 EG but after 1 week of stock I went back to the Rinehart Extreme true duals. Louder yet, they drown out the radio on the road. I could not take much louder than these. They sound great! The stock seat sucked too but a Corbin solo let me sit back further and heritage bars made it feel like my soft tail and made all the difference in the world. The solo seat also gets you off of that high seat feeling.
