2010 Mazda 3? or 2010 Honda Civic?

I am moving out of the dorm next year and I definitely will need a car. My mom will not let me get anything above $14,000 so I think manual transmission version of the mazda 3 and civic probably is around that price. But which one should I get? and what time would be the best time during the year to buy the car?
 
Get the Mazda 3. They're nice cars a put out good performance. Unless you looking for MPG and a good A to B car then just get the Civic.
