2010 Mazda 3 or 2009 Honda Civic?

so far im leaning torwards the Mazda iTouring because i like the interior and exterior and i heard its fun to drive. I want the civic ex w/ navi because it has better mpg. i dont know which one to pick, and will the civic be cheaper this summer because it has to release the 2010 civics? i heard mazdas breakdown easily. Also i go to school upstate ny which is really cold, which is better for the winter?
 
The Mazda3 is a great small car. Whoever told you they breakdown easy just doesn't know what they are talking about. It has been consistently rated one of the best small cars available.

I don't think the difference in MPG is that significant considering the Mazda has a bigger engine.
