2009 toyota corolla is heating up and it smells like somethings burning..Help!?

my 2009 toyota corolla is heating up, and it smells like as if somethings burning. I checked black collant pipe attached to a white box i guess where we put coolant that was full. and seemed like doesn't needs to be changed and if i open hood i dont see any smoke or any thing which may tell the reason. the temperature guage inside car slowly starts rising from middle and goes upto red bar.
 
That sounds dangerous, take it to a shop or call Toyota and see if they can help. My 2008 was on a recall list for the breaks and accelerator, mabey they have other problems with the 08-09 models.
