2009 Gundam suprise?-Speculation thread

According to GundamNews and Random Curiosity

Geez and I thought that Kamen Rider Decade was the only anniversary to look forward to next year.

So...any guesses? A series? A movie? A special? Possibly....Setsuna punching Kira and Shinn in the face (drools)

We can only guess.
 
A call back into the Universal Century maybe with a new series? Could it be the SEED movie at long last (as impossible as that may sound)? Or maybe an even more deconstructing series of the Gundam franchise in the vein of Turn A?

Possibilities are endless.

I would love a Seed movie, but given what we now know about Morosawa's health we're in for a wait--if it ever comes. Also this is a "surprise project," so Seed 3 wouldn't qualify by default.

I'll repeat the idea I had a little ways ago: a Gundam Anthology. Pick a bunch of the more popular side stories, and then animate them. Sentinel, Crossbone, etc. Shoot, maybe Wing's Preventer 5 with the intended ending if I'm absurdly lucky.

Better yet, bring in all the directors of Gundams past to do original stories. Maybe Tomino has washed his hanRAB of Gundam, but even if he's out you could still perhaps get the others to work on it. They could present a story based in UC or in the universe of their own making. Said stories would last 2-3 episodes at the most, and then it's onward to the next one.

This could be a series or it could be a OVA with ridiculous production values. Either way works, just as long as it's on par with the presentation of Gundam 00.
 
True enough, though Zeta was a case of revisiting work he'd already done. Whether they could get him to create something brand new at this point...I don't know.
 
It'll be the announcement of a big-budget Gundam theatrical movie. It'll be a stand-alone movie, with no ties to the UC or AU series. Some Hollywood studio will back it and it'll have a decent-to-good screenwriter.


...or it'll be another Gundam AU TV series.
 
I'd actually make an official wager that it will NOT be an AU project. UC is where it's at for the core fans this news is targetted at. Yet another AU would be meaningless to them, especially since this news is set to come RIGHT after 00 finishes.
 
Spring of '09 marks Gundam's 30th Anniversary. I think that alone makes The Origin a very good possibility. The other likely candidate is an adaption of the new Unicorn novels.

I'd personally like to see either The Origin as a full length series, a short OVA showing major events in the first half of the OYW (while sticking close to the Entertainment Bibles), or a true ending to the Universal Century that culminates with the collapse of the Earth Federation.
 
Please not The Origin...I'm sorry, I skip past this in Gundam Ace and Yas seems to have ignored the 'MSG only more realistic and less toyetic' angle at least 2 or 3 years ago. It's an interesting idea but it's lurching along.
 
In that case, I would demand a Celestial Being / Gundam W team up. They could take anybody.

On The Origin: MSG without Tomino directing? Eh...it'd only be good if you remade the movie trilogy with totally new animation. Then you could reuse the old acting and not have to record new lines. MSG would be reintroduced to the current generation. But Tomino is happy with MSG and went back to Zeta to change some things...it's probably best to leave well enough alone.

But honestly, I would like a special that involved all the universes facing a common threat or something. Those who have read the Marvel vs. DC. graphic novel know what I'm talking about.
 
Gundam crossover eh? I've played enough SRW in my days to know that is always awesome, fanwanking be damned.

If that is so, maybe a double tag team crossover of Gyn Ghineham and the Devil Gundam who want to do some evil double team by Moonlight Butterflying the world and then rebuilding it into the Devil Gundam's image, then everybody must kick their ass and all that.

Or the UC vs. AD vs. CC vs. FC vs. AC vs. CE vs. AW fight would work too.
 
Personally, I'd like to see them give MSG a break. I'll admit it's not my personal favourite but this view comes from the belief everything that can be done with that time period has been done. We've seen the EF side, the Zeon side, the civillian side, the super aces, the common grunts, etc. Add in that each new story just seems to make the wider tale fall apart. How many GM variations can we have and yet still be told the GMs were a desperate stopgap?

I'm not saying do nothing to please fans of it, but please just stop shoehorning in stories which repeat the same old. The Federation is corrupt, we get it. Zeon are space nazis, we get it. War is hell, we get it. Stop milking a story that is pretty much creatively bankrupt. It's not like there aren't other time perioRAB they could expand.
