When I got my EGS I did to it exactly what you are talking about. 1.) Harley's Cruise control - easy to install but a dealer has to 'initialize' it for you. 2.) Backrest - easy enough from one of the 20% places around. 3.) Biketronic Stereo - twice the power of a HK stock system and still have handlebar controls. I added lowers (I like the look and enjoy the extra storage, and I did a bike of blacking out as you can see form the picture. Have fun with it. I got mine on the way to Sturgis last year - didn't expect to but that's the way it worked out. Enjoy the bike....
 
Congratulations..... I recently came over from a long line of metrics as well ( are triumphs still considered a metric?)

either way.... I'm agreeing with the above poster who recommended looking at a new seat instead of lowering the shocks........ I just put a reach seat ( regular not super) on my wife's fatboy and it helped her out a great deal..... at 5'2" she's almost flat footed now
 
Congratulations... you can style the bike to your pleasure... I went one step up (cost) for the same reason. I am much happier spending the savings on what was important to me. Ride On!
 
5 Grand more??!! Uh, not quite. It was 2 grand more. 16.9 vs. 18.9, even the Ultra was "only" 20.9 which would have been 4 grand more. Just for the record.

More importantly, Welcome bmcgc to the family and better yet, welcome to the absolute BEST Forum on the planet. Get real friendly with the Search feature and your life will be greatly improved. So many helpful folks here and a wealth of information that will keep your new baby running at her best.

Now the only EG Standard you can get your hands on these days would be a Police model. Odd that HD got rid of a blank slate/entry level price model that many would love to tinker with. At least you snagged one.

Congrats & welcome! If your gonna hang around here much you better hide your wallet! Pleanty of folks here (me included) are gonna give lots of suggestions on how to spend your money!
 
Im already trying to figure out a way to put red powdercoat wheels and WWWs on. The 09 has a 17in front wheel, the WWWs come in 16in.

So my EGS is a FLHT Im told. The aircleaner cover says FLHX. Did the PO swap covers?
 
When I was at Sturgis, Black Hills H-D in Rapid City still had a brand new blue 09 Standard. It was the only new 09 that I saw they had but I would have loved to have got it. But I don't want to take a loan out again as mine is paid off and will be with me to the end (hopefully).

I put on some of the things the OP wants, like the cruise, backrest and profile low shocks. I like them all and made an improved bike for me. Of course I have added other things as well since then. I really like the bike, including the silver engine.

Also one correction, the Police bikes, with the batwings, are actually considered the Classic model, even though it has as much in common with the Standard as the Classic. The Police models come with the black/chrome engine, front bumper and saddle bag rails, but has the Standard gauge and dash set up.
 
Congrats....I enjoy mine. Pretty much stock. I add Willie G accessories, quick release rack and back rest, and a med tint LRS Ultra Flip wind shield(not shown), Brembo's,cruise and laced wheels came with it. No radio. I- phone w/pandora works great. One of a kind. Im still figuring out what I want to do with the batwing as far as a design... too plain.
