2008 Kawasaki KLR650 ..... Fast bike?

I just bought a 2008 Kawasaki KLR650, but I haven't taken delivery of it, and its my first bike. Is it fast? Anybody out there that has one that can tell me anything about it? Is it a good first bike?? thanks
