I'm thinking of buying a 2008 Jeep Patriot to use as a winter vehicle. I drive approximately 120 miles a day, rain snow, sleet, etc. The Jeep I'm looking at has a clean CarFax, and the interior and exterior appear to be in excellent condition. My concern is the mileage... 99,468. I imagine this must have been mostly highway driving, but I'd like the opinion of others who may have, or currently do, own this vehicle. The BlueBook and NADA values are about $1500-$2000 less than the dealer's (also my regular mechanic) asking price.
Opinions please and thanks!
I'm currently driving a 2002 Mercedes C230 Coupe that I bought new. It gets approx. 25 mpg highway (which is 99% of my driving), and it uses premium gas. According to the information I've gathered, the Patriot gets between 22 and 24, and uses regular. Gas mileage isn't really the issue. What I'd like to know is whether it drives well in snow, and sleet, and whether a Patriot with this many miles will give me a couple of years of dependability without needing any major repairs. I've driven the Mercedes for almost 10 years through the worst weather the Northeast has to offer, but its rear wheel drive handles poorly on frozen precipitation. I'm tired of having to pry my fingers off the steering wheel after a winter weather drive. And yes, I change to studded snows, and add weight during winter months. I'd never make it without them.
