My Ford Fusion will be 3 years old in March 2010. I have put around 64,000 miles on it but my job has me on the road a lot. The other day the yellow wrench light came on.

I took it into my dealership and they couldn't really find anything wrong with it but told me it might be the transmission as they had one that the transmission went in it. When I picked the car up, the light had gone out but it came back on today and it' still on.

I have noticed that there's a hesitation when you step on the gas and sometimes it almost lurches into gear after you've stepped on the gas.

I am not covered under the warranty anymore and a new transmission costs about $5,000 if it goes but I'm getting the extended service plan so if the transmission goes, I'm covered.

The problem I have is that I'm now scared to death to drive the car. I'm just waiting for the transmission to go when I'm driving down a country road in the middle of the night or I have my daughter in the car with me and there's no one around. I shouldn't have to feel that way with a three year old car.

The other problem is that the dealer can't tell me exactly what's wrong with the car and why the yellow wrench light would be coming on. One of the guys said something about the evap system but I have no clue what that could mean.

Like I said, I'm scared to death to drive the car and hate feeling limited in where I can go in case I break down. Why would the yellow wrench light be coming on and could my transmission really be going? I have regular oil changes and I take care of my car. It's quite frustrating.
