My dads 2006 Subaru Outback 2.5i has 98,000 miles. He drives a lot.
He is very happy with the car, and it is his 4th Subaru Outback
At around 87,000 miles, i noticed that there was oil leaking out of the timing belt cover. It wasnt very much. It would collect at the bottom of the cover, and then drip on the exhaust manifold. It would never drip rapidly, just slowly, about 2 or 3 drops per 100 miles driven or so. But this is something that is concerning me. At around 93,000 he had his original brakes changed, and i told him to get the timing belt changed as well, because he is lazy and would go well over the 105k mark before it was changed. When Subaru changed the belt, they said the hydraulic tensioner for the timing belt was loose, and changed it as well. After this when i changed the oil, i looked up and saw it wasn;t leaking any more. However about 2,000 miles after the new tensioner, it started slowly leaking again, and i think that it is a leak at the oil pump, as a engine gasket is unlikely at only 87,000 miles. The car now has 98,000 miles, has had the oil changed EVERY 3,000 miles religiously with mobile 1, (by me) and has had ZERO problems or concerns until now. We are very satisfied with the car and will continue to buy Subaru, but what is this problem.
