Local shop botched oil change recently and ruined the engine in my 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. They have acknowledged same to me/dealership and will be paying for replacement. My car has 86,000+ miles, good service/maint record, minor dents in front & back that were repaired but need painting, no wrecks/flood damage and interior worn (2 kids!). Based on these facts....1. Approx how much $ are we talking here for replacement (and am I crazy for considering putting a free, brand-spanking-new engine in an old car)? 2.Would replacement somehow diminish the value or mess up the integrity of the car (sometimes when you replace imp parts, other parts never seem to work quite the same, etc...)? 3. Would it be more prudent/practical, considering the above facts, for me to ask for the cash and apply it towards a new used-car (which I can do with help from family)? The car is paid for and kinda dented/dinged on the outside, a bit and worn inside, but until last week, ran fine---a real workhorse for the family. Need advice---Thanks! CGC
