2006 Dodge Dakota engine light and high pitched hissing/whining noise when I hit

the gas.? A few days ago the noise started then then engine light went on. Noise goes away at 40MPH but starts again at 50MPH. This noise is only when I hit the gas. Any ideas? I haven't had time to get the light checked yet.
