2005 Pontiac Pursuit engine light appears as well car will not start up?

Hi I have a 2005 pursuit and the engine light is on and the car will not start it tries but then shits down I checked the trunk where the battery is placed and notice there’s a wire that comes from the bottom of the trunk where the battery and it was unplugged then I plugged it in im using a non oem gas lid but have been using it for over 2 weeks since this happened
