I was driving my truck to work today, turned in our parking lot and it just turns off... I was able to start it back up and go ahead and pull into a parking space.. I drove it to my mechanic, it didn't turn off. He drove it and hooked it up to the diagnostic computer I guess, everything checked out fine. He checked all the obvious and said basically it was a fluke and to drive it like nothing happened. I'm paranoid and would love to hear feedback on why this might have happened, also if it happens while i'm traveling a higher speed like 50mph what do I do, considering I lose control of steering wheel and everything. how do i safely stop and do I try to restart it before its completely stopped. Thanks

I had a truck that would die, and even though they are incredibly heavy, you can still stop and turn them without assistance. You will have to pump the brakes, but it will stop. The turning will be difficult, but at higher speeds not too difficult.

well if the diagnostics came up empty its likely the problem does not involve anything with a sensor on it. I'm not convinced there is a problem based on what you said. However, if it happens while driving, take your feet off the pedals, down shift to neutral, and start the truck. Your mobility will not be affected, just note you will lose power steering and power brakes while its off. They will still work, just will take more muscle to used them. Don't take this next part as fact because i'm just guessing, but if you live in a northern climate perhaps your cold weather idle needs to be set-reset? It has been unusually cold lately (I live in MN) and to me it sounds like when you came to a stop and the throttle closed/slammed shut and killed the engine. If this happens again on a cool morning, in particular when you coming to a stop, then the idle is the issue. And again, if nothing ever comes of it then it was just a fluke as your mechanic suggested.
