I want a second car and was considering buying a 2004 Mazda RX-8. This vehicle would be driven about 3,000-5,000 miles a year. In 5 years when the vehicle is paid off, it would have about 35,000-40,000 miles on it. If I spent $11,000 on it now, what do you think the residual value would be? There is RX-7s with similar mileage that are currently 13 or 14 years old that are going for $15,000-20,000. Any chance this vehicle goes up in value if limited mileage is put on it?

No it will not go up in value. The Rx7 was unique because it was the only rotary engine. It was new, and cool to some people. The Rx8 is known to have problems, mainly: slow (very low torque, no power until 6000 RPMs), bad MPG, costly to maintain, and that terrible rice grinder noise.
The last one is my opinion, some people like it. But rest assured, it will not go up in value...
